Even back in the ‘70s and ‘80s I really liked German cars

Nice! I’ve got a box of old cars stashed up in the attic somewhere. Maybe I’ll look for them next time I’m up there.

Pretty sure my folks tossed all mine at some point in the last 15 years . Kind of a bummer, but understandable.

Nice! I recognize a few of those - I’m sure I had the ambulance, Mercedes SL and the BMW at least. Probably some of the others as well, but who knows what happened to them.

I have a shoebox completely filled with my cars and trucks from when I was a kid. Matchbox (mostly Lesney) and older Hot Wheels (a few redlines). I should inventory them, see what survived 50 years.

I believe my little brother had that ambulance one. That 928 sure is cool.

I remember that ambulance! That was never based on a real thing though , wa s it? Doesn’t look very practical for ambulance work...

Nice. I had a few of these, both MB s M1, and 928 in the same livery/wheels, Ferrari with later wheels.

It looks like it started out as some sort of amphibious vehicle; I always thought it looked like duck . I seriously doubt that there was a real prototype made as I don’t think there would be any room for the driver’s legs. That, and no front doors. The back looks pretty roomy, certainly better than the old Suburban-based ambulances of the ‘70s:

I thought I had a gold version of the 928, with yellow windows, but it may be old age catching up with me, thinking about the one I wanted instead of the one I had. And I don’t remember the decals on the M1 making me think that this one might have been a replacement.

The 928 was indeed issued in gold:
It’s actually a very nice casting, a hard shape to get right, and Lesney did it well. The basic casting remained in the range with several variants until the early 90s, I think.
I recall on my M1, the stripes and 52 tampo wore off with time.
I had a ton of this era material I bought out of an estate collection a couple years ago, and sold on LaLD.

Yeah I see what you mean with the amphibious-looking “ hull” . The large windows also had me thinking it might have been inspired by a bus.
It’s fun to think of it a s an ambulance though. J ust imagine the rubbernecking that would occur if ambulances actually had windows like that, where we could see them trying to revive a patient on the way to hospital.
BTW, a quick google turned up the official name: “ Stretcha Fetcha ”

Those are great. I used to get monster trucks and drag race cars, nothing that looked remotely normal.

Wow, what a flashback, I had one too. If I recall correctly the back door opened up? Or maybe I had a larger version.
Would be strange if there was more than one version of that thing!
